Our History

The Centro Oftalmológico Paletta Guedes was created in 2000 with the goal of providing cutting edge service and quality for patients with cataracts and / or glaucoma.
Its members are the sister and brother Dr. Vanessa Maria Paletta Guedes and Ricardo Augusto Dr. Paletta Guedes. Both had solid training in the field of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery, with emphasis on treatment of cataracts and glaucoma.
After residency, they deepened their knowledge with specialization in one of the largest centers of ophthalmology in Europe, the Centre Hospitalier National d’Ophtalmologie des Quinze-Vingts in Paris, France.

Since then, they have been practicing in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, where they hold consultations and surgeries. Annually, an average of 700-800 surgical procedures (cataract and glaucoma) are performed in the Centro Oftalmológico Paletta Guedes).
Dr. Vanessa Maria Paletta Guedes and Ricardo Augusto Dr. Paletta Guedes are internationally recognized as responsible for the introduction in Brazil of the technique of non-penetrating glaucoma surgery.

They are also pioneers in the use of various other techniques of cataract surgery (implants, Premium intraocular lenses, microincisions, etc.) and glaucoma (Ahmed valve, Express Shunt surgery, combined cataract and glaucoma, etc.).
Parallel to their professional activities, they are highly involved in research and development of new forms of diagnosis and treatment of cataracts and glaucoma. Both are part of the research group of Public Health and Ophthalmology at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, where they coordinate research on cataracts and glaucoma.

Dr. Ricardo Augusto Paletta Guedes was also responsible for the Glaucoma Service of University Hospital, Federal University of Juiz de Fora between 2000 and 2007.
